Saudi Arabia will build a 2 km high skyscraper in Riyadh, MEED on December 7 reported. The super-tall building will be located in an 18 square kilometer extension north of Riyadh and is being considered by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF). Authorities have identified a construction site near King Khalid International Airport and are conducting a feasibility study.

The tallest building in the world today is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, 828 m high. Any 2km-tall towers in the region would cost upwards of $5 billion, according to contractors. Many developers, architects, construction professionals and project managers from eight firms Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill Architecture, Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF), Gensler, 10Design, Killa Design was invited to participate in a competition to design a record-high building. Construction of super-tall buildings like Burj Khalifa can be a catalyst for development and attract more investment projects.

Saudi Arabia is conducting many large-scale construction projects. King Salman International Airport will soon rank among the largest airports in the world with an area of ​​57 square kilometers, including six parallel runways and terminals named after King Khalid. In addition, Saudi Arabia is constructing a super city worth 500 billion USD and the straight city (The Line) 170 km long.
