Yamaha Tricera - 3-wheeled electric motorbike is about to be launched

JAPAN Yamaha will bring to the Japan Mobility Show a series of new electric vehicle models, including the Tricera with a special design.

Yamaha Tricera has 2 front wheels and one rear wheel, looking like it came out of a science fiction movie. The front and rear wheels can rotate in the same direction, or in opposite directions for increased flexibility and stability. Rear-wheel steering can even be turned off to enhance the driving experience.

The Tricera is a concept car, and may not be mass produced.

The car has no windshield.

But the design of the air intake going from the front of the car and exiting in the dashboard area helps prevent the wind from hitting the faces and heads of the driver and passengers.

Both sides of the chair have shoulder rests protruding to the sides.

There is only a small screen right on the steering wheel.

The 3-wheel electric concept has 2 air intakes running from the front of the car to the dashboard area. The wind will therefore run from the front over the driver and passenger's heads, meaning there will be no need for a helmet to avoid wind hitting the head.

The car seat is designed with shoulder support protruding to the sides, like a protective structure in case of a collision. The car seat is more like a car seat than a motorcycle seat.

The future of the Tricera may not be commercial production, but the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer has had a number of 3-wheeled products in the past. Among them is the Nickel model with a similar steering system that debuted at the Tokyo auto show in 2017.

Yamaha Tricera will also debut at the auto show taking place in Tokyo at the end of October, with the new name Japan Mobility Show instead of the old name Tokyo Motor Show. Appearing at the booth were a series of new electric vehicle models from Yamaha.
