What is thunder? Why is there thunder?
A particularly common natural phenomenon occurring everywhere on our earth is thunder. It is an extremely powerful current and is ready to destroy everything it launches. Rainstorms, dark clouds in the sky followed by the maximum of lightning discharges of lightning between the clouds, always waiting for the right place to create a launch pad to the ground where people are living. That is thunder.
What is thunder?
Lightning or lightning is a discharge in the atmosphere between clouds and the ground or between clouds carrying different charges, sometimes appearing in volcanic eruptions or dust storms (sand). When released in the atmosphere lightning can move at a speed of 36,000km / h.
Thunder or thunder is the sound caused by lightning and is a natural phenomenon. Depending on the distance and the nature of the lightning bolts, audible thunder sounds can be short or easily extended or short bass. The thunder usually follows the light of lightning.
When the lightning flashes, followed by a period of thunder, it is a clear description of the speed of sound being slower than the speed of light. Because of this difference, one can calculate how far the lightning flashes by measuring the time between seeing the flash of lightning and the sound of thunder.
Lightning is the movement of ions, but the image of the lightning is generated by a plasma stream, so it can be seen before hearing the noise because the noise only moves at 1,230km / h under normal conditions. of air and light travel 299,792,458 m / s.
Lightning can reach temperatures of 30,000 ° C, 20 times the temperature needed to turn silica sand into glass.
Lightning is the movement of ions, but the image of lightning is caused by a stream of glowing plasma.
What causes thunder?
When two oppositely charged clouds come together, the voltage between them can reach millions of volts. There is a flash of lightning between two clouds and one is seen. A few seconds later we hear the explosion, which is thunder (due to the speed of light faster than the speed of sound, we see the lightning first). When the cloud of charged thunderstorms goes near the ground to empty areas, encountering an object of the height of trees, shovel pickers, etc., there will be the phenomenon of sparks between the cloud and the ground. That is the phenomenon of thunder.
What is the safest way to prevent lightning strikes?
When indoors, stay away from windows, doors, and electrical appliances, avoid wet areas such as bathrooms, tanks, faucets, do not use the phone unless it is very necessary.
It is advisable to unplug electrical appliances before a near thunderstorm occurs. With telephone lines or wires connected to an external grid, it is likely to be affected by lightning.
Should avoid these wires and electric objects with a distance of at least 1m. The antenna must be removed from the television during a thunderstorm.
If outdoors, absolutely do not use trees as shelter from the rain, avoid higher areas around, away from metal objects such as bicycles, machines, iron fences ...
Should look for a dry place, if there are higher trees around, you should find a low place, find a low tree position. The person in the lower position the better, his arms around his neck, the human contact with the ground at least; Tiptoe, do not lie on the ground. In particular, do not stand in groups near each other.
If you feel your hair stand up (like the electrical sensation when you touch your hand in front of the TV), that means you can get hit by lightning at any time, immediately sit down and cover your ears with your hands, Do not lie on the ground or put your hand on the ground.
