USB 4 with eGPU support will appear in AMD Ryzen 6000 CPU models launching in 2022
The lack of support for eGPU technology can be considered one of the most unfortunate limitations on AMD's Ryzen 5000 product line. The reason lies in the fact that Thunderbolt 3 is a proprietary technology of Intel.
Fortunately, connectivity standards have improved over time, and the new USB 4 standard can now support Thunderbolt 3. Notably, there are many reports and evidence that the chip line handles AMD's new Ryzen 6000 processor, scheduled to launch in 2022, will support this technology.
Specifically, a new Linux kernel driver patch submitted by AMD engineers for Penguin OS now includes USB 4 DisplayPort 1.4, along with DisplayPort 2.0 Alternate Mode. These are two mandatory features of USB 4.
This patch for Yellow Carp, believed to be the Linux codename of the AMD Ryzen 6000 Rembrandt processor, is expected to be released by AMD in early 2022.
If nothing changes, the appearance of USB 4 with eGPU support in AMD Ryzen 6000 CPU models will bring many benefits to users, especially those who often play games on laptops. Let's wait and see!
